Teach UK - Part Time Initial Teacher Training

We believe that inspirational teaching and learning is vital to helping every child succeed..

What is Teach UK?

Our new part-time programme combines teacher training and practical teaching placement. After completing the induction element, you will be able to start your practical teaching placement within the classroom, gaining new skills and experience to support your teacher training.

What is the Diploma in Education & Training?

The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (QCF) is suitable for teachers working in academies, secondary schools and further education colleges. It prepares trainee teachers to teach in a wide range of contexts and requires observation and assessment of practice.

What is QTLS?

Through our partnership with the Society for Education and Training (SET) we are pleased to offer our trainee teachers a discounted rate when undertaking QTLS.

Martin Reid, the Society for Education and Training's Director, said: "We believe that trainee teachers at Essential Teaching UK will enjoy the ongoing support of their peer group as they go on to undertake QTLS with the Society for Education and Training. With many candidates already applying for QTLS immediately after they have qualified, we believe that continuity will prove an appealing prospect."

Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) is the badge of professionalism for post 14 education. It is awarded by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) and administered by the Society for Education & Training (SET). If you have QTLS status and ongoing membership with SET, you will be eligible to work as a teacher in a variety of education settings in England, including schools. You can read more about the legal parity which QTLS has with QTS here. Our Programme

Our programme is your chance to use your creativity, personality and passion every single day, in an environment that’s challenging and rewarding in equal measure.

We don’t just enrol people who are fresh out of university. Many people take on our programme to start a new career or develop the skills they need to jump-start their teaching journey. We do not require any teaching experience but we will be looking for you to demonstrate examples of our values and competencies, which will be assessed at application and interview stage.

If you are successful at application and the interview stage, you will be made a conditional offer for the DET with QTLS Programme. The curriculum area you teach will be based on the needs of the School, Academy or College and your eligibility.

Next Programme

We deliver our Teach UK Programme twice a year - January and September. All of our live virtual classroom sessions are held monthly, starting on the dates below.

Classroom experience and School experience programmes

Gaining classroom experience before starting your teaching training is essential, without it how do you know teaching is for you? Our Taster day is a unique one day opportunity to engage with Essential Teaching UK and the local Schools, Academies or Colleges; starting to develop the skills and attributes needed to progress into teaching. Designed exclusively for those who wish to change career.

Learners may already be teaching and wish to have their experience and practice accredited, or not presently teaching but capable of meeting the minimum teaching practice requirement of 100 hours. If you are unable to complete the minimum teaching practice, we currently place participants into UTC Portsmouth, Milton Cross Academy & Portsmouth College, Hampshire and wider UK Schools & Colleges.

Our selection process
