What is Teach UK?

Teach UK is an accredited teacher training program that provides you with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience you need to become a fully qualified teacher within either a secondary school or college environment. Our course is designed for individuals who are new to teaching and have little or no experience in the classroom, as well as those who have been working as unqualified teachers and want to formalise their training.

Our program combines theoretical learning with practical classroom experience, giving you a comprehensive understanding of the teaching profession and enabling you to develop your own teaching style. You will be guided by experienced teacher trainers who are dedicated to helping you succeed and achieve your goals.

Why Choose Teach UK?

There are many benefits to choosing Teach UK for your initial teacher training:

  • Accredited by Training Qualifications UK: Our Diploma in Education and Training is registered by the Office of Qualifications and leads to Qualified Teacher and Learning Skills Status (QTLS), which is required to teach in state-funded schools in England.

  • Gain Professional Status through our partnership with the Society for Education and Training (SET).

  • Flexible learning: Our programme is delivered over a part-time syllabus, allowing you to fit your studies around your existing commitments.

  • Hands-on experience: You will have the opportunity to gain practical teaching experience in a school setting, working alongside experienced teachers and putting your learning into practice.

  • Supportive environment: Our experienced teacher trainers are committed to providing you with personalised support and guidance throughout your training.

  • Career prospects: Becoming a qualified teacher opens up a range of career opportunities, both in the UK and internationally. Our course also provides you with the foundation for further professional development, such as Advanced Teacher Status.

Martin Reid, the Society for Education and Training's Director, said: "We believe that trainee teachers at Essential Teaching UK will enjoy the ongoing support of their peer group as they go on to undertake QTLS with the Society for Education and Training. With many candidates already applying for QTLS immediately after they have qualified, we believe that continuity will prove an appealing prospect."

Course Structure

The Teach UK program is structured in two stages:

Stage One: Theoretical Learning

During the first stage of the program, you will study the theoretical aspects of teaching, including:

  • Role and responsibilities of a teacher
  • Classroom management and behaviour
  • The principles of teaching and learning
  • Professionalism and ethics
  • Using and developing resources
  • Special educational needs and inclusion
  • Teaching in a specialist environment

Stage Two: School-based Experience

In the second stage of the program, you will gain practical experience in a school setting, working alongside experienced teachers and putting your learning into practice. If not already within an education setting, we will assist you to find a school or college to enable you to complete your teaching practice and be supervised by a mentor who will support you throughout your placements.

Assessment

Assessment is ongoing throughout the program and includes written assignments, lesson observations, and self-reflection. You will also be required to complete an online portfolio of evidence demonstrating your understanding and application of the theoretical aspects of teaching and your practical experience in the classroom.
