What is the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training?
The Certificate in Education and Training is intended for those who to teach in a wide range of contexts. For example, this could be in a college, a prison, a private training provider or the workplace. This qualification is suitable for individuals applying for a role within any of the above teaching environments, however, if successful some employers will offer you the opportunity to complete the Diploma in Teaching (DiT) after completing your probationary period (See our DiT programme).
Our six-day CET programme is accredited by TQUK, following their Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training - Qualification Specification.
The qualification is suitable for:
- individuals who are not currently teaching and training but who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements of the qualification
- individuals who are currently teaching and training (including those who have just begun teaching and training) who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements of the qualification
- individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a teaching qualification.



Modules / Programme of Study:
The CET programme comprises of five mandatory core modules and one optional module (37 Credits).
- Module One: Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training (this module is also part of the Award in Education and Training)
- Module Two: Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training
- Module Three: Delivering education and training
- Module Four: Assessing learners in education and training
- Module Five: Using resources for education and training
- Module Six (a): Developing, using and organising resources in a specialist area
or - Module Six (b): Inclusive practice
or - Module Six (c): Teaching in a specialist area
Teaching Practice
The qualification requires a minimum of 30 hours on placement.
There will be 3 formal teaching practice observations. Each observation must be a minimum of 60 minutes and conducted by your tutor and/or subject specialist/pastoral support mentor.
Total qualification time
The qualification is 36 credits which equals a total qualification time of 360 hours.
Guided learning hours
There will be a minimum of 140 guided learning hours. Learners are expected to study and complete aspects of their online portfolio in their own time. This additional time is expected to be approximately 220 hours.
Assessment
An online portfolio of evidence, including assignments, long answer questions, teaching practice observations, and evidence of teaching knowledge, skills and behaviours.
Entry Requirements
Learners must meet the following minimum criteria:
- 19 years of age and above
- Able to demonstrate an ability to study at level 4
- Do not have a criminal background which prevents them from working as a teacher/trainer with young people or vulnerable adults. There may be a requirement by the employer for learners to be checked by the disclosure and barring service. The learner is responsible for seeking advice from their employer regarding this.
- There is no requirement for learners to complete the Level 3 Award in Education and Training prior to commencing this qualification. However, if a learner has achieved the level 3 unit: “Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training”, they will not have to take this unit as part of the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training.

Enrolment
This qualification is suitable for individuals who want a qualification that focuses on practical teaching and prefer a wider choice of optional units. Learners may already be teaching and wish to have their experience and practice accredited, or not presently teaching but capable of meeting the minimum teaching practice requirement of 30 hours.
It is designed for both college and the public and private training industry and covers the generic teaching knowledge, skills and behaviours that are required to become an effective teacher/trainer.

Learners will achieve the nationally recognised RQF approved:
TQUK Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training.
