Level 1 Award in Mentoring

What is the Level 1 Award in Mentoring?
The Award in Mentoring is intended for those who are required to develop knowledge of mentoring, mentoring skills and practice and giving them opportunities to practice the skills. It is suitable for those prior to or in employment who wish to develop their understanding of mentoring.
Our AM programme is accredited by TQUK, following their Level 1 Award in Mentoring - Qualification Specification.
The qualification is suitable for:
- individuals who are not currently mentoring but who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements of the qualification.
- individuals who are currently mentoring (including those who have just begun mentoring) who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements of the qualification.
- individuals currently working as a learner mentor or classroom assistant who wish to achieve a mentoring qualification.



Modules / Programme of Study:
The AM programme comprises of one mandatory core module with three sections (6 Credits).
- Section One: Introduction to Mentoring
- Section Two: Mentoring Skills
- Section Three: Mentoring Practice
Mentoring Practice
The qualification requires 2-4 hours of mentoring practice.
There will be 1 formal mentoring practice via an asynchronous observation. The observation must be a minimum of 30 minutes.
Total qualification time
The qualification is 6 credits which equals a total qualification time of 60 hours.
Guided learning hours
There will be a minimum of 48 guided learning hours. Learners are expected to study and complete aspects of their online portfolio in their own time. This additional time is expected to be approximately 12 hours.
Assessment
An online portfolio of evidence, including short answer questions, mentoring practice observations, and evidence of mentoring knowledge, skills and behaviours.
Entry Requirements
Learners must meet the following minimum criteria:
- 14 years of age and above
- There are no specific entry requirements and learners do not need to have mentoring practice hours to commence the qualification.
- Do not have a criminal background which prevents them from working as a learner mentor with young people or vulnerable adults. There may be a requirement by the employer for learners to be checked by the disclosure and barring service. The learner is responsible for seeking advice from their employer regarding this.

Enrolment
This programme is designed for individuals who may be already working in a mentoring, coaching or learning support role or may use the qualification as part of progression to a role such as learner mentor, coach or classroom assistant.
It is designed for both schools and colleges and covers the generic mentoring knowledge, skills and behaviours that are required to become an effective learner mentor.

Certification
Learners will achieve the nationally recognised RQF approved:
TQUK Level 1 Award in Mentoring.
We are very proud to be a platinum approved centre and have direct claim status with our awarding body TQUK, resulting in certificates being awarded within 10 working days of portfolio completion.

Successful learners can progress to other continuous professional development such as:
- Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
- Level 3 Award in Coaching and Mentoring
