Coaching is a vital but often overlooked, value building, skill for leaders. Coaching promotes learning and builds the capacity for change in schools as teachers learn with and from one another.
Learning involves teaching and sharing knowledge by doing things together with others, however, we are also required to empower our classroom to become independent learners.
The Coaching for Education Programme covers three distinctive areas:
Learner Mentor is designed to support learners who experience difficulties with their learning. Mentors work closely with individuals who are struggling with social, emotional or behavioural problems that affect their ability to learn.
Classroom Coach is designed to develop coaching skills involving communication techniques to actively listen, provide feedback and to engage and motivate learners in planning their individualised learning programme. These skills are integral to assessing learners’ knowledge and competence in the classroom.
Teacher Coach is designed to support Recently Qualified Teachers (RQT), Newly Qualified (NQT) and returning experienced Teaching Practitioners who request or require professional development.
Upon completion of the programme the Student Teacher / Learner will achieve the following, either;
This qualification is designed to enhance the principles, skills and impact of coaching and mentoring and will develop expertise in coaching and mentoring within the classroom. This will support Teachers in understanding coaching and mentoring and the skills and knowledge required to be a Teacher Coach. It is suitable for Teachers who wish to develop their understanding of coaching and mentoring. Teachers may be already working in a classroom or support role or may use the qualification as part of progression to a role such as NQT/RQT Mentor, Teacher Coach or Teacher Trainer.
A more extensive qualification, this qualification gives a broader knowledge of coaching and mentoring skills, focusing on coaching and mentoring relationships, operational processes and evaluation techniques. This will support learners in the development of both their theoretical and practical knowledge in coaching and mentoring, and reflective practice required to be an effective supervisor of coaches or mentors. It is suitable for Teachers who wish to broaden their knowledge of coaching and mentoring. Teachers may be already working in a supervisory role or leadership role or may use the qualification as part of progression to a role such as head of department or senior leadership teacher.
