The qualification is designed to develop knowledge of mentoring, mentoring skills and practice and giving opportunities to develop and improve their skills. This will support learners in further developing their understanding of mentoring and the skills and knowledge required to be a mentor. It is suitable for learners prior to or in employment who wish to develop their understanding of mentoring. Learners may be already working in a mentoring, coaching or support role or may use the qualification as part of progression to a role such as mentor, coach or classroom assistant

The course is made up of three core modules:

  • Module One - Mentoring Practice
  • Module Two - Introduction to Mentoring
  • Module Three - Mentoring Skills

The qualification is assessed through a multi-choice examination of evidence which demonstrates the learner has met the required assessment criteria. All learners are expected to prove both their theoretical and practical knowledge within their multi-choice examination of evidence.

A more extensive qualification, this qualification gives a broader knowledge of coaching and mentoring skills, focussing on coaching and mentoring relationships, operational processes and evaluation techniques. This will support learners in the development of both their theoretical and practical knowledge in coaching and mentoring, and reflective practice required to be an effective supervisor of coaches or mentors. It is suitable for learners prior to or in employment who wish to broaden their knowledge of coaching and mentoring. Learners may be already working in a supervisory role or leadership role or may use the qualification as part of progression to a role such as line manager or senior leadership teacher.

The course is made up of seven core modules:

  • Module One - Understand the principles of coaching and mentoring
  • Module Two - Understand the skills required of a coach
  • Module Three - Understand the skills required of a mentor
  • Module Four - Understand the impact of coaching on individual, team and organisational performance
  • Module Five - Be able to plan a coaching or mentoring programme
  • Module Six - Be able to deliver a coaching or mentoring programme
  • Module Seven - Be able to evaluate own coaching or mentoring practice
